So I recently updated my iPad to iOS 12.2 from.. a much older version, and it’ s been doing this thing that’s driving me nuts.
I like to open links in new tabs. That was always pretty simple - hold down on the link, then w hen the little menu appears, select “open in new tab.” Easy enough.
But now, when I hold down the link, a box appears around it and the entire thing kind of pops out of the screen before the little menu appears. And if I move my finger, I can drag this link-bubble all around the screen, but otherwise am not sure what I’m supposed to do with it.
What is this, and can I turn it off?

As far as I know, you can’t disable it. It’s an obnoxious feature that’s supposed to allow you to drag links and other things to side-view apps. If I recall correctly, you just have to hold your finger very still while holding the link to get the option box.
It might be worth taking a look in Accessibility settings to see if there’s an option to play with how sensitive it is.

If that’s the case, that sucks. It makes a little more sense if using split screen, but I’d like the option to turn it off.
I went poking around the accessibility settings, but I’ve never even heard of half the shit in there so I left it alone .

I just checked on my old iPad Mini. It doesn’t seem like there’s any setting to disable it. You just kind of have to hold down on the link until the box disappears and the options pop up. However, if you want to open the link in a new tab, you can also drag the box up to the new tab plus sign and it’ll open a new tab.

So annoying, but I suppose I’ll just have to get used to it.
Thanks for the tip.
